Tick boxes. Walk. Leave. Repeat until the mix feels boring.

Survival Checklist

Print this in your head or leave it open. It is the short form of Getting Started, How to Survive, and How to Escape. When a box stays unchecked, that is the reason you died — not a secret monster name.

Before you press Play

  • Creator line says Breet Studios, not a different ape title. Confirm via official links if unsure.
  • Headphones on, Discord on push-to-talk or muted.
  • You know crouch and camera on this device (controls).
  • Win condition picked: lab loop, Forest loop, or scout.
  • You are not here to paste a code. The codes hub is empty.

Lobby

  • Server is not already a scream pit. Hop if needed (cap is 20).
  • You looked at the tables and still did not buy a mystery pass.
  • Stack agreed on a reset word.
  • Roles optional: scout, carrier, anchor.

First two minutes inside

  • No sprint except to break a chase.
  • First room has two exits or you left it.
  • You can point at a return path.
  • You heard one cue and lived.

Lab loop

  • Walls, not center lines.
  • Stairs walked, doors not slammed.
  • Storage circled before center crates.
  • Overlap junction closed — you left the floor.
  • No “one more desk” after the reset word.

Forest loop (only after a clean lab)

  • Threshold photographed with your eyes from both sides.
  • Spine walked; first meadow not cut.
  • Two landmarks tagged, or one in weather.
  • Ditches treated as optional.
  • Return started while you still had patience. See forest map.

Extract

  • Hands empty of new loot decisions.
  • Sprint reserved for a hunter that already owns the floor.
  • Backward listen at the threshold.
  • You stayed in lobby light. No “one screenshot more.”

After a death

  • Cue written down on the monster cues sheet.
  • Type identified: sight, sound, ambush, stalker (How to Beat Monsters).
  • Next run has one constraint only.
  • If you tilted, you stopped. Fatigue sprints.

If every box is green and you still wipe, you are in an overlap S-tier room from the monster tier list. The checklist cannot delete a closed junction. It can only tell you to leave.

Re-run the list after a title-screen event. Forest week changes the outdoor boxes, not the headphone box.

Related: beta notes if a box refers to a UI that vanished, and the Tools Hub if you want the cue sheet instead.

When every box is green and you still die

You are in overlap. The checklist cannot open a closed junction. Leave the floor, change the win condition to scout, and run the monster tier list again. If you are still ticking green boxes while sprinting, you are lying to the page. The page does not care. The hunter does.

Print the extract section on a sticky if you are the teammate who always says one more room. That sentence has ended more good hours than any Forest stalker. Green boxes only count if your feet were walking.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How often should I use the checklist?

Every session until the first two minutes are automatic. Then use it after patches.

Can I skip Forest boxes?

Yes. They are optional until you choose a Forest win condition.

What if my stack ignores the reset word?

Extract anyway. The checklist is per ape, not per democracy.

Is this for mobile too?

Yes. Add a mental box for “jump button not accidental.”

Do green boxes count if I sprinted?

No. Green boxes only count if your feet were walking.
